Arran Project's Meeting with Arran High School's Enactus Team
Last month our Arran Project team headed over to the Isle of Arran to meet the ENACTUS team on the island.
It was a cold day but a lovely trip over on the ferry with our Project Leader Drew and Karen, our academic advisor.
Since GCU’s last visit the Arran team had decided to split into two sub-teams, thus each could fully focus on their issue – alleviating mental health and loneliness on the island.
Both teams have made great progress since the last visit and are visibly on their way to establishing a sustainable and successful Enactus Society! The team focusing on mental health have managed to organise an after-school club for pupils within the school where they can take part in a range of activities such as: arts and crafts, playing an instrument and just socialising in a safe and secure environment with their peers. So far it has had great success and attendance for the club is starting to pick up!
The team focusing on loneliness have done well in distributing surveys across the island to find out the needs of people who are feeling lonely and what activities they would like to take part in. This has been a great help for the team to find out what they need to do in order to combat this issue.
Hopefully, in the run up to Christmas the first event can take place and be the start to a great year of events. We really enjoyed meeting the team over at Arran and were so impressed with how enthusiastic they were about being involved in such an amazing project. This is definitely going to be a great year for the Arran Project!
